Now more than ever, it’s important to maintain a clean and disinfected environment in your home, especially if you’re still working, going to the grocery store, needing to be close to other people, etc. The biggest thing to take away from this article is to clean the surface and then disinfect. Just doing one or the other won’t be enough.
How to properly clean & disinfect
- Always wear disposable gloves for both steps and then throw them away afterward.
- Clean with soap and water as frequently as needed. Pay attention to “high traffic” surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches, tables, countertops, sinks, phones, keyboards, and more.
- After you’ve thoroughly cleaned the area follow up with an EPA-registered household disinfectant. Keep the surface wet before wiping it up for the full effect. Make sure you follow the directions on the label.
- If needed, you can also use a diluted household bleach solution or an alcohol solution that’s at least 70% alcohol. Make sure the bleach used is intended for disinfection and hasn’t expired.
