Kitchen design is a very personal preference for any family. Kitchen islands are a great addition to any indoor or outdoor kitchen space. By adding a kitchen island to your design plan it offers the potential for great storage, display, and functionality with the addition of amenities such as wine cooler, sink, shelving, stove top, stools, etc.

Pros and Cons of a 2-Tier Kitchen Island 1

Pros: With 2 levels/tiers you can add an extra dimension to your kitchen and create visual interest to any design. It can be a practical solution for differentiating eating and workspace. Installing 2 tiers frees the eating from clutter from the full counter and can also obstruct the view of a messy area.

Add a raised level for a breakfast bar. Standard bar height is 42 inches, so look for 30-inch-high bar stool, but opt for the height that suits your needs. Manufacturers are now making stools that fit 30, 36 and 42-inch island countertops. Choose coordinating stools without or without backs that work with well with your cabinetry. Introduce a new accent color or color or tone that matches the lighting fixtures, wall tiles, paint color or your window treatments.

Make certain you have sufficient lighting and space for the number of seats you intend to have

Cons: Some consider that a 2 tier island visually breaks up the kitchen space, making the room look and feel smaller, obstructs the kitchen workflow and potentially losing cooking prep space.

Bella Casa Kitchen & Bath understands that the kitchen is more than just a place to cook and eat. When deciding on whether or not to add a multi-tier island to your kitchen, think about what will be the purpose and function of the island and the square footage you have in your kitchen. A well-designed kitchen is the central and most often used room of your home.
